OWLS

36+ months

Owls is our pre-school room. Working with a number of themed topics throughout the year, creative and artistic activities are further developed. These topics are also used in numerical, language and social development, to make learning fun. This is further enhanced with the introduction to basic computer learning with our touch screen computer.

Other regular weekly activities include a P.E session, cooking club and the gardening club.

The mobile library and soccer school are also available fortnightly.

Our aim in this room is to provide the children with a sound educational grounding and to ensure they enter school happy and confident. The nursery curriculum covers the Early Years three primary areas of learning, which are:

 -  personal, social and emotional development

 -  communication and language

 -  physical development

and also meets the four specific areas of learning:

 - literacy

 - mathematics

 - expressive arts and design

 - understanding the world

These areas are met within our learn through play approach.

The room is set up with free-flow activities  role-play, construction area, book area, maths equipment, mark making and writing books, painting easel, messy area, nature table, sensory area.

There is also structured play and focused activities during each session.

Theme weeks are a regular occurrence with a mix of cultural festivals and seasonal events. The childrens' interests guide the focus of each week's activities.
